OneDrive does not always ask first
Windows quietly redirects your Desktop, Documents and Pictures folders into OneDrive, syncs in the background, and can leave you staring at "this file is online-only" icons instead of the files you thought were right there. It also chews through your free OneDrive storage without warning.
Removed properly, not just signed out
I fully unlink and uninstall OneDrive, move your files back into a genuine local folder structure, clear out the leftover startup entries and shortcuts, and set you up with whatever suits you instead, local storage, an external drive, or a different cloud provider if you still want one.
